. >> reporter: good afternoon. more than 100 local crab fisher boats have not left the harbor but some oregon fishermen is hate hitting the -- are feeling the pinch. one boat offloading was from oregon. before thanksgiving, fishermen were earning $3 a pound and demand took a dip and the prices plunged. and that's caused a shortage of the crab in the bay area. the dispute started on sunday when crab boat skippers heard that they were planning to cut the prices to $1.80 for fresh crab. >> we started at 3 bucks. we fished for a couple of weeks before the wind came up and now the wind has died off. we're ready to go fishing again. we want the same 3 bucks. our expenses are the same and there's less crab in the water. >> reporter: now he says he has $2.7 million tied up in his boat and he's sick of local strikes trying to hold him hostage. >> these guys are trying to write every law they can to keep people from fishing. they've gone on strike for unattainable prices getting us to tieup. >> you will be hard pressed to find any crab in the supermarket right now. that could change on monday. the oreg

fishermen sat and watched this morning as a load of crab came in on a boat visiting from oregon. >> when we tie-up we hope we all stan together so we can get a price that is -- all stand together so we can get a price that is fair to everybody. when you see somebody doing something like this it does hurt. >> reporter: the san francisco crews have decided not to fish since the price of crab dropped they were getting $3 a upon before thanksgiving now $2.75. the owner of the visit ing -- visiting boat says he has a business to run. >> if you are not from town and fish you are a no good sob. >> reporter: he pulled in crab worth $100,000. he's getting $3.25, all going to canada. the san francisco guys are not sure how this will impact negotiations. >> it is not good, it does hurt to see a few select guys fishing and everybody else is tied up. >> we have [ inaudible ] every year it is a big fight. >> reporter: while negotiations continue, locally, no crab here. i checked with the restaurant here on the wharf, no crab. local stores don't have it either. they all think they will have it by monday b

of them in southern oregon, the other one in... the upper part of the lower peninsula of michigan. there were suddenly a large number of people in relatively small communities with very severe, bloody, diarrheal illness. and when these people went to their health care providers, the health care providers took specimens, tested them for the bugs that they knew caused that type of bloody diarrhea and came up with nothing. they turned first to the local, then to the state public health department, and when that didn't turn up any answers, the state asked the cdc for assistance. and so in circumstances where people can't come up with the causative agent, those specimens can then come into our laboratories, and we can run tests for a variety of different things that are both known and unknown. and that's what we did in that particular situation. and one of the things that we noticed is that we found that there were unusual e. coli in several of the specimens that were submitted to us from both oregon and from michigan. now, everyone normally has e. coli in their g.i. tract. it's a norm

in san francisco, this happened in oregon. the troopers responded and the next day, that day, went for searching for this individual, couldn't find him. he was really far off into the woods. some five miles or so. and during the course of that investigation, they determined who the individual was, they contacted the family, and determined that this person had a or was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and as a result of minor conflict would simply run away. the next day the troopers went off on a snowmobile and made contact with the person. and the engagement was simple this, the trooper himself, being a former marine, contacted the personified ... and identified him by his name and said semp er fi soldier. and it immediately made a connection and there were no issues whatsoever. unfortunately that same individual had lengthy issues of conflict with law enforcement. but, by slowing down and making this kind of contact, connecting with the person which we are teaching our folks how to do, how to connect. my name is mikal, i am not commander ali when i am having this leve

and the president made of us and as a result i've gone out into my community and my district goes from the oregon border to monteray, and i've met with all kinds of different people. we have 33 indian tribes in the northern district of california, most people don't know, and i've met with those people. i've met with the muslim community, with the siekh american community, with the lgbq community, with the human rights commission in san francisco, all kinds of people, and we talk about all kinds of things. we talk about things that are more common to the u.s. attorney. we talk about fraud and identify theft and hate crimes and civil rights issue and there's one thing that comes up in absolutely every conversation that i have had with people in the district, and that was bullying. and it really, it was, it's not surprising to the people in this room, i know. it was not surprising to me but it was troubling to me that in every community that i was meeting with, this was an issue prrp violence, harassment, physical, cyber, social, children on children, this kind of behavior is so disturbing and
